Expansion of Fractional Helicopters on the horizon?

Word has it that Sikorsky is looking towards a significant expansion of its existing fractional helicopter programme by taking the offer to international customers through a franchise business model.

Although surprising given how well helicopter ownership lends itself to the fractional format the market has not expanded in line with the massive growth of the fractional jets-  Sikorsky is among the handful of established helicopter companies and has been offering fractional opportunities through its Sikorsky Shares programme for over 12 years now and a major growth plan is on the cards with studies into franchising the ‘Shares programme currently underway.

Sikorsky Shares currently operates using S-76 aircraft in New York City and Philadelphia. If Sikorsky’s expansion plans go ahead major cities including London, Paris, Tokyo and a selection of Middle East cities could soon offer customers the chance to buy flight time on board helicopters in regions outside their ‘home’ membership area. Including in the expansion plans are additional US cities such as Los Angeles. 

With an increase in availability and flexibility fractional helicopters could be the next major fractional success story.  FL shall keep you posted on future developments.
